Project Profile: 2.5 MW DC MO32 Maryland Community Solar
Montgomery County's First Operational Community Solar Project
In 2022, TurningPoint Energy celebrated the completion of a 2.5 MWdc community solar project in Spencerville, Maryland. The project is the first operational community solar project in Montgomery County. TurningPoint Energy developed the project under the State of Maryland’s Community Solar Pilot Program.
The array was built on Cedar Ridge Community Church’s (CRCC) property and will provide hundreds of subscribed households with lower monthly energy costs. TPE developed the project, working closely with CRCC and Montgomery County. Solar Gaines served as EPC, and Summit Ridge Energy is the project owner-operator.
TPE and its partners:
- Gave back: As part of its Montgomery County projects, TPE made donations to local non-profit organizations, including $5,000 to Manna Food Center, which collects and shares up to 3.3 million pounds of food each year, and $8,000 to Mission Beelieve, which provides therapeutic and vocational training for veterans and first responders.
- Set aside community solar subscriptions from the project for LMI residents: 30% of the estimated 350 available subscriptions from the project are designated for low to moderate income households.
