Project Profile: 8 MW DC Kentuck
Utility-Scale Solar
TurningPoint Energy was selected to develop the 8 MW DC TPE Kentuck Solar Project that will account for 1.5% of Danville Utilities’ power needs. TPE developed the project and purchased the real estate. Brookfield Renewables is the project investor. At the time of its completion in 2018, the Kentuck Solar Project was Virginia’s largest municipal utility solar farm.
In 2019, the City of Danville announced the development of two additional solar farms, Irish Road and Whitmell. In collaboration with TurningPoint Energy and Navisun, these two additional solar farms, also located in Pittsylvania County, were completed in 2020.
TPE and its partners:
- Gave back: TPE donated $20,000 and four (4) acres of land worth an estimated $26,000 to Pittsylvania County Public Schools to support the local school district’s expansion needs.
- Support for Local Schools: TPE is also providing opportunities for students in the surrounding schools, including tours and live operational data for use in science projects.
