The 2 MW AC WO04 and 4.5 MW AC WO05 Community Solar Projects (9.8 MW DC total) are located on a reclaimed former coal mine site in Woodford County. Built on approximately 40 acres and utilizing 16,950 U.S.-manufactured solar modules, the projects transform a legacy fossil fuel property into a long-term source of clean, renewable energy for residents, businesses, and institutions.

As certified brownfield sites under the Illinois Shines program, the projects demonstrate how previously disturbed land can be restored to productive use while supporting Illinois’ clean energy transition. The Minonk projects are also the first Illinois Shines community solar developments in Woodford County.

The projects deliver electricity directly to the ComEd grid and are among the first community solar facilities in ComEd’s service territory to incorporate Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS). By integrating DERMS across both solar arrays, the projects help support more flexible and efficient interconnection of distributed energy resources while enabling enhanced grid management, load balancing, and reliability as renewable generation continues to grow across Illinois.
