Project Profile: 15.68 MW DC RI King

Rhode Island Community Solar

The 15.68 MW DC RI King Community Solar Project located in North Smithfield, Rhode Island is comprised of two solar arrays. TPE developed the project and selected DEPCOM Power as the EPC and Nautilus Solar Energy as the project investor.  The RI King project is one of two projects completed by the team in 2021.

The project was developed on contaminated land with limited uses because of its proximity to the Landfill & Resource Recovery Inc superfund site, and required significant collaboration between Nautilus, TPE, Town of North Smithfield, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM).

At the time of its completion, the project was the largest community solar project in Rhode Island and will provide more than 3,000 Rhode Island National Grid customers with energy savings through community solar subscriptions. The RI King solar project is part of the State of Rhode Island’s Community Net Metering Solar Pilot Program.

TPE and its partners:

  • Supported the community: As part of the project, TPE made charitable contributions to local organizations including the Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) and the North Smithfield Food Pantry.
